The name was changed to Amethyst House, Inc. in 1989. Outpatient Services were added in 2000 in Bloomington and in 2001 in Evansville, IN. The Evansville location closed in the end of February, 2012, but Amethyst continues to provide services in the community through Counseling For Change, located at 1133 Lincoln Ave, Evansville, IN 47714 (phone: 812-491-2615).
Why Amethyst?
In mythology, the rich, purple, semi-precious amethyst stone was called "Without Intoxication". The Greeks believed the stone would prevent people from getting intoxicated.
Today, the stone is popular to people recovering and healing from addictions. |
