Mark has been in the field of substance abuse for the past 30 years. He received his Bachelors Degree from Wilmington College (Wilmington, Ohio) in 1989 and his Masters Degree in Counselor Education from the University of Dayton (Dayton, Ohio) in 1997. For the 12 years prior to his position at Amethyst House, Mark worked as the Clinical Supervisor of Aurora Addiction Services at Reid Hospital in Richmond, Indiana. He served as a Board Member on the Addiction Resource Network of Indiana, Inc. from 1998 to 2006. Mark joined Amethyst House in November 2006 as Clinical Director and became Executive Director in 2010.

SCOTT BISCHOFF, PH.D.
Scott obtained his Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology from IUPUI in 1992 and his Doctorate in Counseling Psychology from Ball State in 2014. He has worked extensively with substance abuse disorders, complex trauma and attachment based trauma disorders, anxiety and depressive disorders, and borderline personality disorder. He was adjunct faculty at Ball State University from 2015-2021, has extensive experience providing clinical supervision, and also has experience conducting couple and family therapy. He has worked primarily with underserved populations, including work at two federally funded community health centers, community health centers, a child and adolescent residential treatment center, and worked with a state hospital based addictions program for several years. Scott is trained in EMDR and has been using this technique for over 15 years; he is also trained in DBT, TF CBT, Emotion Focused Couple’s Therapy, and ACT.

GINA LOVELL, BS
Originally from Logansport, Indiana, Gina has lived in Bloomington since 1984. She graduated from Indiana University in 1988 with a degree in Quantitative Business Analysis. After graduation she worked at a couple of local banks until 1992 when she became a stay-at-home mom, although she continued to work part-time as an independent bookkeeper. Gina joined Amethyst House in November 2004 as a part-time, temporary bookkeeper and was hired full-time in February 2005.

JERRI RUSNAK
Office Manager
Jerri is a lifelong resident of Bloomington, IN. She obtained her Undergraduate (BM) and Masters Degrees (MM) from Indiana University’s Jacob School of Music. Prior to joining Amethyst House as Office Manager in July 2017, she worked in the Property Management field for the past 15 years.
KIM GREEN
Billing Specialist
Kim was born in Chicago, IL but moved to Bloomington, IN when she was very young. In the past, she has worked in early childcare, DME billing, insurance verification and sales, as well as various administrative roles. Kim joined Amethyst House part-time in February 2020 and full-time in March 2021 in her new role as Billing Specialist and feels fortunate to have found such a welcoming team.

JENNIFER WOOD, LSW
Addictions Counselor
Jennifer was born and raised here in Bloomington and lived in Texas for the majority of her professional career before returning back home. She has earned a Bachelor's degree both in Criminal Justice and Psychology, followed by obtaining a Master's degree in Social Work. After earning her degrees, she began working in the social work field, and has continued to do so for over 25 years. As long as she can remember Jennifer has had a passion for advocacy and social justice issues, which play an important role in her daily life. Jennifer loves hiking and can always be found exploring the outdoors.
CARMEN LEVASSEUR, LCSW
Addictions Counselor
Carmen graduated New York University in 2007 with a Master's degree in Social Work. She worked in New York City, serving adults with mental health and addiction issues until 2014 when she moved to Indiana. Carmen continues to work with adults, facilitating individual and group therapy. She has experience in CBT, DBT and Motivational Interviewing to treat addiction and mental illness, treatment of trauma, recreational and creative therapy, parenting and self esteem support. Carmen was a presenter at the NASW-IN conference in 2018 and 2019, facilitating a workshop on Supporting Clients with Trauma through creative expression.
SARAH J. MURRAY, MSEd.
Addictions Counselor
Upon completing her bachelor’s degrees at Western Michigan University, Sarah started her career in 2009, as a LISC AmeriCorps member in Benton Harbor, Michigan. After her year of service, Sarah continued to work in community development across west Michigan. She obtained her Master’s in Urban and Regional Planning from Michigan State University in 2015, and then worked for the C.S. Mott Foundation where she supported international grant-making aimed at increasing renewable energy access and protecting communities and the environment in developing countries. Sarah moved to Bloomington in 2017, when she accepted a position of Associate Director in the Office of International Development at Indiana University. She later moved to a Research Associate position with Indiana University’s Eppley Institute for Park and Public Lands. Shifting from working with communities to helping individuals, Sarah studied Mental Health Counseling at Indiana University and graduated with a Master’s of Science in Education in 2023. Sarah specializes in providing trauma-informed care to adults with substance use disorder.
ALLY FREUND, MSEd.
Addictions Counselor
Ally graduated from the University of Alabama with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology in 2021. She then obtained a Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling with a focus on the treatment of substance use disorders from Indiana University in 2023. She has been associated with Amethyst House since early 2022, when she began her internship, and is happy to be working full-time since June of 2023.
WALTER KELLER, PhD, HSPP
Group Facilitator
Walt is a psychologist who works part time with Amethyst to provide case reviews, case consultation and training services. He received his undergraduate degree in psychology from IU in 1970 and his PhD from the University of Rochester in 1976. He has worked in the field for over 45 years as assistant professor, trainer, consultant, founder and organizer at the local, state and national level. He has served on many boards and has been associated with Amethyst House off and on since 1984.

BRYNN MICHAELS
Case Manager, Women's House
Originally from Los Angeles, Brynn earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Northern Colorado. Previously, she interned and volunteered with an anti-human trafficking organization in Colorado. Brynn moved to Bloomington in 2019 along with her two cats, dog, and partner. Her interests include cooking, reading (especially fiction), and challenging addiction and mental health stigmas. She began work with Amethyst House in 2020.

Carmyn began working for Amethyst House in September of 2022. Prior to her position at Amethyst House she worked for multiple inpatient rehabilitation centers as a Behavioral Health Technician. Carmyn is passionate about reducing the stigma surrounding addiction. She is appreciative to have an opportunity to work with a dedicated team focused on assisting individuals in building a foundation for their recovery.

Originally from the Cincinnati area, Dan has had connections with the Bloomington community for over 40 years, living here in the 1980’s before relocating to the Chicago area in 1989, pursuing a 30-year management career in the retail automobile industry. Since his return in 2019, Dan has worked with the U.S. Department of Commerce, as well as Catalent Pharmaceuticals, and is very active in the recovery community at both the local and district levels. Dan defines working in recovery - with those who still suffer - to achieve sobriety - as one of the primary purposes in his life today.
