Mark has been in the field of substance abuse for the past 30 years. He received his Bachelors Degree from Wilmington College (Wilmington, Ohio) in 1989 and his Masters Degree in Counselor Education from the University of Dayton (Dayton, Ohio) in 1997. For the 12 years prior to his position at Amethyst House, Mark worked as the Clinical Supervisor of Aurora Addiction Services at Reid Hospital in Richmond, Indiana. He served as a Board Member on the Addiction Resource Network of Indiana, Inc. from 1998 to 2006. Mark joined Amethyst House in November 2006 as Clinical Director and became Executive Director in 2010.

nancy nerad, lcac
Nancy Nerad serves as Clinical Director of Amethyst House. In this position she supervises a team of clinicians who provide assessment, therapy, life skills and care coordination to adults in support of their recovery from alcohol, drug, and gambling addiction. Prior to this Nancy worked as Coordinator of Adult and Family Services for a community mental health center in Morgan County. Throughout her career, Nancy has provided clinical services and created new programs in support of a population of men, women and children who have experienced multiple layers of trauma, poverty, addiction and physical and mental health issues. Nancy received both her master’s and bachelor’s degrees from Loyola University Chicago, and is a Licensed Certified Addictions Counselor.

GINA LOVELL, BS
Originally from Logansport, Indiana, Gina has lived in Bloomington since 1984. She graduated from Indiana University in 1988 with a degree in Quantitative Business Analysis. After graduation she worked at a couple of local banks until 1992 when she became a stay-at-home mom, although she continued to work part-time as an independent bookkeeper. Gina joined Amethyst House in November 2004 as a part-time, temporary bookkeeper and was hired full-time in February 2005.

JERRI RUSNAK
Office Manager
Jerri is a lifelong resident of Bloomington, IN. She obtained her Undergraduate (BM) and Masters Degrees (MM) from Indiana University’s Jacob School of Music. Prior to joining Amethyst House as Office Manager in July 2017, she worked in the Property Management field for the past 15 years.
MICHAELA WILLIAMS
Billing Manager
Michaela was born and raised in the Bloomington, IN area. She obtained her Associate of Applied Science from Medtech College with a focus as a Medical Billing and Coding Specialist in 2014 and is currently obtaining her Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration. In the past, Michaela has worked as a CNA, medical assistant, and administrative assistant in addition to billing and coding. Her background includes dermatology, geriatrics, interventional radiology, radiology, DME services, dental, physical therapy, emergency services, and general practice. She joined the Amethyst House team in February 2019.
KIM GREEN
Administrative Assistant
Kim was born in Chicago, IL but moved to Bloomington, IN when she was very young. In the past, she has worked in early childcare, DME billing, insurance verification and sales, as well as various administrative roles. Kim joined Amethyst House part-time in February 2020 and feels fortunate to have found such a welcoming team.

Outpatient Counselor
Residential Overnight Tech Supervisor
Desirae earned two Bachelor's degrees in Psychology and Religious Studies at the University of South Florida. She moved from Florida to live in a place with seasons and to pursue her Master's degree in Counselor Education at Indiana University. She began working with Amethyst House in January 2015 as an intern at the outpatient office, where she was able to provide substance abuse counseling services. Desirae was hired part-time in December 2015 as a women's house case manager for Amethyst House's residential program. She has since become a counselor with Outpatient services residential night tech supervisor.
JAMES WALKER, MSW, LCSW
Clinical Coordinator & Outpatient Counselor
James was born and raised in the Bloomington area. He received a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and certificate in Criminal Justice from Indiana University in 2011. In his pursuit of a Master of Social Work degree, he began working with Amethyst House for his initial internship in 2015. He continued volunteering with Amethyst House after completing the internship until June 2016, when he became an outpatient intern once again. James was hired part-time in September 2016 as a counselor for Amethyst House’s outpatient program, then hired full-time in December 2016, where he has been able to provide substance abuse counseling services.
KIKI DUNN, MSW
Addictions Counselor & Project Specialist
Kiki moved to Bloomington in 2015 from Northwest Indiana. Kiki received her BSW and MSW from Indiana University, doing both her undergraduate and graduate internships at Amethyst House. Kiki was a residential tech with Amethyst House from May 2018 until she was hired full time in 2020 as an addictions counselor and project specialist. Kiki is passionate about trauma-informed care and providing strengths-based services to her clients.
Walter A. Keller, PhD, HSPP
Walt is a psychologist who works part time with Amethyst to provide case reviews, case consultation and training services. He received his undergraduate degree in psychology from IU in 1970 and his PhD from the University of Rochester in 1976. He has worked in the field for over 45 years as assistant professor, trainer, consultant, founder and organizer at the local, state and national level. He has served on many boards and has been associated with Amethyst House off and on since 1984.

Kim moved to Bloomington in 2011 to attend Indiana University. She majored in Community Health and graduated in 2014 with a Bachelors of Science in Public Health. Before Kim became the Men’s House Case Manager for Amethyst House in 2017, she helped people with developmental disabilities find jobs in the Bloomington community. Kim lives with her husband in Spencer, IN and enjoys gardening and baking.

Arielle grew up in Bloomington, IN and attended Indiana University in 2015. In 2019, she graduated with a degree in social work. Prior to becoming a case manager at Amethyst House, Arielle was the Social Work Trainer and Program Coordinator for New Leaf - New Life, and the Referral Specialist for the Community Kitchen. Arielle is currently pursuing a Master's degree in Social Work at Indiana University. In her spare time, Arielle enjoys painting and hiking.

Case Manager, Women's House
Maureen is originally from the Hudson Valley, NY. She moved to Bloomington in 2006 to pursue an MFA in painting at Indiana University after receiving her BFA in painting from MICA. Maureen started working for Amethyst is 2012 as a part-time night technician and waiting list coordinator and joined Amethyst as a full- time case manager in 2019. Previous employment experiences include teaching college level drawing, painting and art history courses at Indiana University, Ivy Tech, Herron College of Art, the University of Alabama and Samford University. In addition to painting, Maureen also spends her free time taking ballet classes at the University.

Originally from Los Angeles, Brynn earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Northern Colorado. Previously, she interned and volunteered with an anti-human trafficking organization in Colorado. Brynn moved to Bloomington in 2019 along with her two cats, dog, and partner. Her interests include cooking, reading (especially fiction), and challenging addiction and mental health stigmas. She began work with Amethyst House in 2020.
HEATHER BLAND
Case Manager, Women's House
Heather was born in Bloomington and has spent the last several years as an advocate for those seeking long term recovery without reinforcing the stigma of addiction. She began working at Amethyst House in October 2020 as a Residential Technician and became a Case Manager in February 2021. Heather has strong family roots in the community. She is passionate about developing positive core beliefs which support the opportunity clients have to rebuild their lives and families. Heather enjoys spending time outdoors and creating natural art. She uses these interests to help clients find a creative outlet to support positive habits and joy in recovery.

Admissions Coordinator
Jill is a Bloomington native who began working with Amethyst in 2018. Jill is committed to breaking barriers to treatment in her position as the Admissions Coordinator. Jill’s educational background is in criminal justice and looks to use this knowledge to help clients navigate the criminal justice system.
